Acknowledgement of Country
We Acknowledge Wodi Wodi Kin (Family) Country as being Dharrawal interpreted Country. We extend acknowledgement to the current Traditional Custodians of the land we are situated, and to all Elders Past and Present, and recognise their continuing connection to Land, Sky, Water and Country.
Cultural Leadership
Before anything else.
Every booking opens with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, led by Yanaga Murru.
Who decides
Drew Longbottom.
A language practitioner and cultural advisor from the Jerrinja Aboriginal Community. He decides what is shared, how it is described, and where it may appear.
Yanaga Murru lead and price every cultural programme, and nothing is shared without their permission.
The smoking ceremony
In Drew’s words.
When we go into the smoke, it takes us with it. Our scent, our identity, travels with that smoke. The smoke goes through the trees, into the tree, and through Country. Country becomes aware of who you are, and you become a part of Country in that way.

On the day
Come to listen.
Yanaga Murru lead the ceremony and set the pace. You’ll be told beforehand what’s asked of you, so there’s nothing to get wrong. You don’t have to take part in anything, and nothing is filmed without agreement.
Beyond the opening
A corroboree, boomerang throwing or other programming can be added, arranged directly with Yanaga Murru.
A corroboree is a place where you pass on information. The singing is the verbal expression of the story you’re telling. The dance is the expression of that story through movement.

Commissioning a cultural programme
Ask early.
If this matters to you, mention it when you enquire. It takes time to arrange, and a late request is more likely to be declined than rushed.
